"Will it be safe for me to get a massage while I'm pregnant?"
Providing you have a normal pregnancy and your OBGYN or Midwife hasn't told you you're high risk in any way, yes, it should be safe.  If you do have any complications, ask your care provider first.
"Does it hurt?"
As a RMT, it is my responsibility and pleasure to work within your pain tolerance.  Some conditions may require deeper pressure, but I will only apply what you think you can handle.
"How quickly will I see results?"
It depends on your history, mechanism of injury, type of condition and other factors.  Generally, the longer your situation has been building up, the longer it will take to experience lasting results.  This also depends on how well you take care of yourself in between appointments.
"What if it's my first time?"
For your first visit, you will fill out a health history form, including what your goals are for massage, we'll go through it together, and I'll suggest a treatment plan.  All information is kept confidential, as with any other medical form.  After our initial interview and assessment, I'll then leave the room to give you privacy to change (most people go down to their underpants, but you do what's comfortable for you) and then you'll get on the massage table in between the sheets.  Most of the time you'll start out face down, with your face in the face cradle.  While you're face down, a pillow will be placed under your ankles, and while you're face up, the pillow will go under your knees.  This helps support the curve in your low back.  You will be covered by sheets (and a blanket if you're cold) and only the part I'm working on will be uncovered.  I'll be checking in with you regularly to see how you're enjoying the pressure, but if at any time you want me to decrease it, or increase it after I've warmed up the tissues, let me know.  If you are pregnant, I would have you positioned side-lying with appropriate pillowing.
"How often should I come?"
It depends on your individual situation and how well you take care of yourself in between appointments.  If you are an avid athlete that runs half or full marathons, or if you're a cyclist that goes on 200km treks, you might want to come once every 10 - 14 days, in particular right before or after an event or trek.  If you're experiencing tightness from a desk job, you might be o.k. coming once every month or two.
If you're experiencing aches and pains from pregnancy, it really depends on how your particular pregnancy is treating you, and how well you are treating yourself.  In my experience, the average expectant mother does well coming once a month.
